Tour itinerary: Kathmandu

Ghaṭasthapana (“sowing Jamara") marks the beginning of Dashain. On this day the kalasha is filled with holy water which is then covered with cow dung and sewn with barley seeds. Dashain is celebrated by the majority of ethnic communities in Nepal. It is celebrated during the month of October.
Another main day is Fulpati. It is the seventh day of Dashain. Traditionally, on this day, the royal Kailash, banana stalks, jamara, and sugar cane are tied with red cloth and are brought by Brahmins from Gorkha. Another big day of Dashain is the Maha Aasthami, It is the eighth day of Dashain. On this day people worship God Durga and the Blood Thirsty Kali. People slaughter animals for Durga. Another main day of Dashain is Mahanavami the day people worship Lord Bhawani. Traditionally on this day, people have to eat nine times. Another important day is Bijaya Dashami, It is the tenth day of Dashain. On this day elders put tika and jamara on the children’s foreheads. A mixture of rice, yogurt, and vermilion is prepared by the women. Elders give Dakshina (amount of money) to younger people along with the blessings. Tika is continuous for five days from the day of Bijaya Dashami. The last day of the festival is Kojagrata Purnima which is the 15th day of Ghatasthapana, which falls on the full moon day. People attend temples and shrines on this day to pray and obtain blessings. They also pay visits to their elders' homes to get tika, a sacred mark on the forehead, and Tamara, a grain garland
