Description of the tour

Tour itinerary: Sofia → Melnik → Sofia

Wine making is widely popular in Bulgaria although may be not so much known about.

Melnik is the smallest town in Bulgaria, to the South -East of the country, and has always been very interesting both for its wine and the great sand pyramids that are all around the area!
Melnik broad-leaf vine is an endemic sort of grapes and the wine produced is young and enthusiastic! In a combination with some beautiful natural sites, typical traditional houses and quite turbulent history, this little place will charm you with its cozy atmosphere, simplicity and the tasty food and traditional recopies from the region.
Nearby, only at six kilometers distance is situated the Rozhen monastery - a spiritual place located on one of the high places, enchanting you with the peacefulness and the feeling of freedom.
Only 2 1/2 hours after we started from Sofia we will be able to enjoy walking along the small streets of Melnik, visit a typical house form the middle of eighteen century, we'll learn some of the local turbulent history and about some Bulgarian revolutionaries.
There we'll be introduced to the local Melnik broad-leaf wine and will discover some underground wine cellars, where even today the local wine is being produced!
